AI, Creativity, and the Risk of Bypassing Our Human Design

Present Thoughts on AI 🤖

AI isn’t just about technology. It's about our humanity — and the future of our mental health.

When new teens arrive here for art therapy, it’s common for them to show me “their drawing” — on an iPad. A digitized sketch.

But when I hand them a pencil, many can’t draw at all.

Not a straight line. Not a circle.

And more confronting still: they have zero confidence to even try.

Until we begin to create hands-on.

This is no small thing.

There are critical cognitive connectors that must form in childhood and adolescence — the ones that link hand, mind, and self-esteem.

Without them, whole aspects of development are bypassed. And digitization, now accelerated by AI, threatens to fast-track that bypass.

✨ Healthy self-esteem.

✨ A strong sense of self, purpose, and belonging in community.

✨ The ability to unfold talents over time, through repetition, discovery, and mastery.

⚠️ All of these depend on the process of creating — not the instant result. And that process is what’s being displaced.

I am grateful for my daughters’ teachers, who vigilantly push back against copy-and-paste culture and insist on research, on originality.

At home, we talk about this often.

When my girls are doing schoolwork, we speak of both the convenience and the huge cost of shortcuts like copying and pasting.

🌿 The poets in our children.

🌿 The artists in our children.

🌿 The creatives in all of us.

This is genius. It is innate capacity.

Every one of us is born with it.

But it doesn’t simply appear — it unfolds. It takes time, risk, failure, patience, hands-on discovery.

That process is not optional; it is the foundation of both mental and physical well-being, and our deep sense of place in the world.

🌳 At SATORI EARTH, the land itself holds a vision.

A vision of community, parenting, and creativity meeting this challenge directly.

A living, breathing ground for exploration, and remembrance — where we continue to, 🌳 create with our hands

🌳 where we ask the harder questions

🌳 where we study how to honour our inherent design

🌳 while learning to walk consciously alongside AI.

Because this is not just about art.

It’s about whether we let our inherent design be displaced.

And if we allow that — it becomes a sustainability issue.

Not technological sustainability, but rather human sustainability.

✨ Our natural design needs to be recognised, respected, and protected first.

✨ Only then can we explore AI without sacrificing ourselves in the process.

Otherwise, we risk becoming the first generation to hand over our birthright — our creativity, our intuition, our process of becoming — in exchange for convenience.

And if that happens, it will not just be art or poetry that suffers.

It will be us. ✨🌿 Our sustainability. Our humanity. Our future. 🌎
